lasers or money? money.

well, i had been struggling with this decision for quite a while now. in fact, this morning i made a spreadsheet with with different aspects of the jobs and how i would rate them and how important i considered the various aspects. it came out to 231 points for the optics job and 230 for the northrop grumman job. not exactly a lot of help.

fortunately (or unfortunately, i'm not quite sure yet) it has suddenly become a lot easier. the job with the optics group, i knew would start off as not so interesting java programming, but there seemed to be plenty of other interesting work once the boring stuff was out of the way. the guy i "interviewed" with over there seemed to understand that, and that i didn't have a problem doing the java work but would come with the intention of working on something else. his boss however did not feel the same way and wanted a dedicated java programmer and decided not to offer me the job.

looks like northrop grumman it is. on one hand, i am a bit disappointed, but on the other hand i'm glad i don't have to make a decision.

Lasers or Money?

I've been looking for a new job. Something more interesting. I currently have an offer from Northrop Grumman for a pretty significant amount of money and I would be the team lead for about 5 programmers, but doing the same boring work I have been doing essentially. I have a pseudo-offer from another group at NRL to work on some cool laser junk. The pay would be the same, the work would be more interesting than what I do now, but not what I imagine to be the perfect job. However, it would likely be a step closer to the perfect job, whereas the job at NG would be a good career move up the ladder, but not the right ladder. Not sure what the right move is here. Comments are welcome.
